Kadi Lee, colorist to Julia Roberts, has been a go-to hair expert since her days at Spelman College. After graduating, she went to Aveda’s cosmetology school and eventually opened Highbrow Hippie, a Venice-based atelier and hair-care line she founded alongside entrepreneur and brand strategist Myka Harris. Along with longtime client Roberts, Lee has expanded her clientele to Gwyneth Paltrow, Meghan Markle, and Amber Valletta. “There are some people who are just blessed to do any color, and Julia Roberts is one of them,” Lee says. “She looks just as good blonde as she does red or brown.”

Lee still takes a DIY approach to coloring her own hair. Though since she’s a pro, there aren’t any box-dye or bleach mishaps. She has taken the time to get to know her hair, which is always changing with perimenopause, by testing new products for her line and cutting out heat styling. Here’s her hair-care routine.
